1. Check the connection on both phones
Open a webpage on your child’s phone to check internet access. Confirm that mobile data is available away from Wi-Fi. Your own phone also needs internet to receive a new location.
2. Check location access
Open the child’s phone settings and find the companion app’s location permissions. Enable the location access requested during setup, including background access where available. On iPhone, review Location Services and the app’s requested access.
3. Review background and battery settings
Android manufacturers can restrict apps in the background. Use the child app’s setup checklist to review battery optimisation and auto-start settings. The menu names differ by device.
4. Check reception and the reported time
GPS may be less precise indoors or near tall buildings. A stored point is not a new position. Reopen the child app with a working connection and check whether the parent map receives an update.
5. If the pin updates but alerts do not
Review notification permission on the parent’s phone and the days, times and arrival or departure options configured for the saved place. Check focus and notification settings too.
